Sidney D. Avants

Sidney D. Avants passed away peacefully in Hospice care on March 25, 2022, in Honesdale, PA. at the age of 83. He was born on August 3, 1938 in Metairie, LA, to the late Clyde L. Sr, and Althea Y. Avants. 
Sidney was a veteran of the United States AIr Force. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Metairie, LA. in 2000, and was a member of Metairie Lodge #444, Jerusalem Shriners, and The Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. 
Sidney is survived by his wife of 24 years, Kathy Avants. His brother Tommy Avants, niece Dawn Royes(Joseph), 2 great nephews, and 1 great-great niece. Also survived by 3 stepchildren, Gail Schehr (Edward), Tracey de Martini (Francois) and Travis Head (MIchelle), 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and special niece and friend Judy Malone (Johnny).
Sidney was preceded in death by his brother C.L. Avants, Jr., and second wife Dorothy M. Avants.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, May 14th, from 9:00AM - 11:00AM at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Dr., Metairie, La. Burial immediately following in Gardens of Memories Cemetery.
