Raphael Jacob “Ray” Eiffert, Jr., a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away quietly on May 4, 2021 at the age of 85. He was born in New Orleans on August 16, 1935 then moved to Metairie in 1967, where he lived the rest of his life.

In New Orleans he attended Sts. Peter and Paul grammar school then was graduated from Jesuit High School in 1953. After receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Loyola University, he went on to complete his education with a Master’s Degree. He began a career as a C.P.A. with I.B.M. then moved to L.A. Frey Meat Company; where he attained the position of Comptroller/Treasurer. Having spent most of his career with Frey, he thereafter moved on to accounting positions with various other companies in the New Orleans area before retiring. All along, he also worked on taxes, especially for elderly people.

He served his country as a lieutenant in the United States Army. He married Bonnie J. Chauvin in 1962 and raised 3 sons with her. He was also a man of strong faith and steadfastly dedicated to community service. As a parishioner of St. Angela Merici, he made sure that his children attended Mass every weekend. He coached St. Angela’s C.Y.O. girls’ cabbage ball teams for several years, as well as organized and initiated the Summer Baseball program there. For many years he was on the Board of Directors for the Metairie YMCA and was a member of the Kiwanis Dawn Busters Club, at one time being on their Board of Directors. He received the “Kiwanian of the Year” award and held the distinction of being dubbed the “Official Joke Teller” of the club.

He loved fishing and never missed an opportunity to go, spending most of those times in Hopedale, Louisiana. He was also involved in square dancing, having been a member of several different clubs, and especially enjoying attending square dance festivals in and out of town.

Ray is survived by his wife, Bonnie Chauvin Eiffert, his sons, Gregory Eiffert, Rene´ Eiffert and Christopher Eiffert (Heather); 2 granddaughters, Annalise Eiffert and Caitlyn Eiffert; 2 step-grandsons, Colin Cruthirds and Caden Cruthirds; his sister, Gloria Eiffert Vandenweghe; and very many nieces and nephews.

Ray was predeceased by his parents, Raphael J. Eiffert, Sr. and Alice Meridier Eiffert and 2 sisters, Lynne Eiffert Odenwald and Patricia Eiffert Fichter.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation on Saturday, May 15 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at St. Angela Merici Church, located at 901 Beverly Garden Dr. in Metairie. A Catholic Mass of Burial, celebrated by Fr. Beau Charbonnet, will follow at noon. Interment will be at the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
