Tribute

Peter Leon Fabacher, age 88, passed away on November 4, 2023.

Our Dad, Peter Leon Fabacher, took his Heavenly Walk two-months after our Mom, Sharon Burke Fabacher, went to Heaven. They were married for 66 years. Their love was so great we knew it would not be long before they were holding hands, again, in Heaven. Peter was called to Heaven at the age of 88 on November 4, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Peter was also predeceased by his parents Anthony Edmund Fabacher, Sr. and Mary Regina Primo Fabacher and brothers Anthony Edmund Fabacher, Jr. and Sherard John Fabacher.

He is survived by his five daughters, who have been affectionately and proudly known by their birth number: Daughter #1 Suzy DiBenedetto (Kevin), #2 Kathy Bramblett (Gary), #3 Colleen Fabacher, #4 Peggy Linn (Michael), and #5 Nancy Dolly (and, former son-in-law Carl Dolly). “BiBi” will be deeply missed by his 10 grandchildren: Peter Bramblett, Katie DiBenedetto, Chris DiBenedetto (Victoria), Caroline DiBenedetto, Michael DiBenedetto, Chase Dolly (Erin), Peyton Bramblett, Chad Dolly, Maggie Linn, and Ryan Linn. Peter is also survived by his beautiful sister, Mary Fabacher Nims, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A highlight of Dad’s teenage years was walking to his summer job at Audubon Park, where he had fond memories of cleaning the animal habitats, helping around the zoo grounds, and managing the pool area.

Peter graduated from Fortier High School in 1954, where he was a member of the Tarpon football team. Upon graduation, he attended Southeastern Louisiana University, where he was a member of the 1954 Gulf States Conference Championship football team and 1955 seasons.

On December 27, 1956, Peter married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Ann Burke, at Holy Name of Jesus Church.

Dad proudly served in the United States Army Reserve during peacetime for 6 years and was Honorably Discharged in May1963.

He was a self-employed Electrical Contractor for over 40 years. He loved his electrical vocation and enjoyed mentoring future Electricians.

Our Dad was the ultimate “Girl” Dad! Always on deck and ready to roll. On early-morning fishing trips or vacation outings, Dad would ring the wake-up bell by saying, “Early birds get the worms.” He was engaged in and supportive of all activities, such as - childhood school projects and extracurricular activities; Junior and High School student body and school activities, watched us perform at football games and other events; and then, off to college to begin our own life experiences.

Beginning in his childhood, Dad loved fishing and crabbing at their camp in Grand Isle and continued the tradition with his own kids and grandchildren. There were many fishing trips that turned into boat rides with an empty ice chest on return – but a lot of fun and fishing memories were made. He also loved beach-time day and night – telling his jokes and stories to family and friends around the bonfire till the wee hours of the night. We will miss and cherish our memories of family Christmas celebrations and parties; driving on adventurous road-trip vacations; and our trips to Walt Disney World throughout the years. Later in life, Mom and Dad enjoyed their cruises and dancing the night away.

Although not having any sons, Dad was very involved in the Bonnabel Football Booster Club during the 1977-1978 season, where he supported his two nephews, Donald and John Fabacher, and the rest of the Bruin football team and coaches. He was known as Uncle Pete to all the players. It was an amazing and special time for our entire family. We are still part of the Bruin family, and the Bruin family is still going strong after 45 years.

No matter where Dad went or traveled, he never met a stranger! He loved animals and people. Especially, our beloved family dog, Molly, who was 17 years old when she went to Heaven. She was our little Angel. And, in recent years, Dad loved making daily visits to the neighborhood stores, garage sales, curb-side shopping (a favorite), etc. visiting with friends and making new ones as he went along on his route. Dad was a collector…to put it mildly. He loved his garage, tools, and stuff! New inventory showed up daily and mom and family would then have to move some of it out the back door and put it back on the curb! Needless to say, we spent a lot of our time cleaning the garage.

The family of Peter and Sharon Fabacher would like to express their gratitude to our cousins John and Donald Fabacher for their unwavering love and relentless efforts in rebuilding the interior of our parents’ home following Hurricane Ida. Additionally, we would especially like to thank, Bryan, our beloved neighbor, for his years of support, kindness, and care of both our parents. We are also grateful to our neighbors, walkers, dog walkers, bicyclists, and anybody else who stopped to wave or chat with Mom and Dad while they were enjoying their front-porch time, holding hands. We are grateful to Christine, Ms. D, Ms. Jackie, Bridget, and the entire team at Serenity Hospice for their care, support, and guidance throughout this journey. Furthermore, our deepest gratitude and thank you to the Staff of the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home in Reserve for their care and kindness to Dad and our family. We also want to thank the amazing Veterans and their families, who we met and have grown close to over the last three weeks. We miss you and will visit soon! Happy Veterans Day to all Veterans around the world! And, now we want to express our deepest gratitude and thank you to the Acadian Ambulance team – Porter Taylor, Christian, the Crew, Dispatcher, and all involved in getting Dad back to his home to complete his Heavenly Walk. Amen!
