Merlyn Jerome Homer, age 93, passed away peacefully at his home and entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Sunday, December 9, 2018. He was born on March 13, 1925 in New Orleans to the late Martin Joseph Homer, Sr. and Elizabeth Petit Homer.
Merlyn was married to his beloved wife, the late Malvern “Mel” Margaret Mancuso for 34 years. Preceded in death by his brother, Martin J. Homer, Jr. (Bertha), sisters Ruby H. Kerth (Hillard, Sr.) and Vivian H. Moeller (Lawrence, Sr.). He is survived by his sister Elizabeth “Betty” H. Bordelon (James, Sr.). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Merlyn was a lifelong resident of Metairie and was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena. He attended St. Henry School and Holy Cross High School. During his life, he was employed by New Orleans-Baton Rouge Riverboat Pilots Association and New Orleans Public Grain Elevator as a dispatcher. Merlyn enjoyed the 40s Big Band Music and Classic Country and Western. He was an avid LSU fan, a season ticket holder for many years and loved traveling to Tiger Stadium for football games.
The family wishes to thank his wonderful neighbors for their love and exceptional kindness. Merlyn was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
