July 20, 1982 ~ June 27, 2020 (age 37) 37 Years Old

Tribute

Melvin James “M.J.” Gumpert III, age 37, passed away on June 27, 2020, at his home in Jefferson, Louisiana. Melvin was born on July 20, 1982 in Metairie, Louisiana. He was a loving and giving soul who showed compassion to all. All who met him and knew him became a part of his family. He was a passionate artist, writer, chef and gardener. He loved the outdoors (especially fishing!) and being in nature. He cared deeply about those who were homeless and helped them in every way he could. He will always remain in our hearts.
Melvin “M.J.” is survived by his children, Maksimus and Lilou Gumpert, whom he was very proud of and treasured beyond compare in his heart and who have always been lovingly taken care of by their mother, Michelle Roberie. He leaves behind his parents, Christina Lynn Wallace Gumpert Ivey, of Jefferson, Louisiana and Melvin James Gumpert Jr., of Metairie, Louisiana; his brothers and sister whom he dearly loved: Joshua and Cory Gumpert of Slidell, Louisiana and Rebeccalynn Ivey of Jefferson, Louisiana. A special thank you to Corys’ wife, Mrs. Irene Gumpert for all the love and support you have given my son now and always.
Also survived by his loving grandmothers, Brenda J. Wallace, of Kenner, Louisiana and Helen Gumpert of Metairie, Louisiana; his uncles and aunts: Constance Wallace Canfield, Bobbie Wallace, Edward Sanders, Stephanie M. Wallace, Anthony C. Rousseve; his cousins: Christina Martindale Batiste, Jeremy Wayne Peterson, Stephen Joseph Wallace, Nathalie M. Rocquin, Paul Wallace and many more nieces, nephews and cousins. Also, a very special thank you to Mr. Rick Smith, M.J.’s employer who loved him like a son. Rick, you believed in M.J. from the very start. You loved him, guided him, and were teaching him the path to long-term success. He loved you Rick.
M.J., Momma loves you. I am so very grateful and blessed to have had you in my life. I will forever love you and be proud of how much you had accomplished in the last part of your life.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Robert Lee Wallace, of Jefferson, Louisiana and Melvin James Gumpert, of Metairie, Louisiana; his great-grandparents, Emmanuel Elbert Wallace and Gladys Helen Wallace; his aunt, Cynthia Lee Wallace Peterson and his niece, Ashley Victoria Wallace Royal.
I encourage everyone to please leave your special memories, condolences, and photos about M.J. on the tribute wall. It would mean the world to me as his mom.
