Leroy K. "Butsy" Barras

Leroy K. “Butsy” Barras passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021.  

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 42 years, Laura Mae Barras; his parents, Kenton Barras and Isabelle Lasseigne Barras; and his siblings: Beverly, Faye, Mina and Hugh. 

He is survived by his children, Kirk Barras (Myrtie) and Suzanne Barras Cox (Todd); his grandchildren: Daphne Fajardo (Norbin), Jacob Barras (Chelsea), Kara Barras, and Callie Cox; great-grandchildren: Emily, Valeska, Jalena and Dahlia Fajardo; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom loved him dearly. 

Leroy was born in St. Martinville, Louisiana and was a lifelong resident of Metairie, Louisiana for over 50 years.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force as well as the Korean War.  Leroy loved LSU sports, listening to music on his deck and his Budweiser beer.  He greatly enjoyed walking in Lafreniere Park and visiting with his neighbors.  Leroy was also a member of the last 6 man state championship football team in Louisiana.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Tharp Sontheimer Funeral Home, 1600 North Causeway Blvd , Metairie, Louisiana 70001, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  Please note that due to the current State requirements all visitors must wear masks while in the funeral home.  A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow immediately thereafter in Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive, Metaire, LA 70001.  To offer condolences please visit www.gardenofmemoriesmetairie.com.
