Joseph Anthony Lazaro Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at the age of 65. He was born in Newark, New Jersey on April 24, 1958 to the late Joseph Anthony Lazaro Sr. and late Clara Julia Mancuso Lazaro. He lived in New Orleans for 23 years and resided in Kenner for the past 28 years. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of New Orleans in 1982.
Joseph served as a Senior Administrative Assistant at Shell Oil in New Orleans for over 37 years. He was a dedicated employee, passionate about his position, and offered unconditional service to the Shell team, whom he loved dearly. He was endeared by his coworkers for his reliability, generosity with his time, and willingness to help as well as his sweet personality, which made working with him a joy.
Joseph had a very giving heart and was known by many for sending cards and gifts on birthdays and holidays. He lived to serve others and was dearly loved by all who met him. He was also affectionately known by many as “Uncle Joe.”
Joseph was a dedicated parishioner of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Kenner. He spent many hours worshiping, making new friends, and having Masses said for his mother and father. After mass, he made a tradition of sharing a meal with friends- often treating the party.
As a lover of travel, he would take frequent trips to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the Caribbean beaches. He always returned from his trips with an abundance of gifts for friends and family.
Joseph’s favorite holiday was Christmas. He decorated his lawn with a plethora of lights to shine brightly for his neighborhood. Similar to the lights on his lawn, Joseph was a beacon of light to all that knew him. A modern-day Saint Nicholas, Joseph delivered gifts and Italian Panettones to everyone he knew. He often reminisced on Christmas about his parents and missed them deeply around holidays.
He is survived and will be dearly missed by relatives and many loving friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Services on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Garden of Memories Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA 70001. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with a Mass starting at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow in the Chapel of Peace where he will be laid to rest with his parents.
