Johanna Marie Durel Peeler

July 20, 1941 ~ September 3, 2021 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Tribute

Johanna Marie Durel Peeler at age 80 was called home to her heavenly father on September 3, 2021.

Johanna(Jo) was born in New Orleans, La to the late Randolph (Rene) Durel and the late Beatrice Veron Durel. Jo grew up in uptown New Orleans graduating from St. Stephen high school. Jo married Daniel John Peeler Jr. for 59 years, gaining as her in-laws the late Daniel John Peeler Sr. and the late Clothilde Mauer Peeler. Daniel and Jo later moved to Little Farms (River Ridge) where they would live together in love for the remainder of her life.

Jo’s world centered around her love of family, but especially around her children Lori Peeler Roth, Marjorie Peeler Besse (Joseph), Daniel John Peeler III, and Sheryl Peeler Landry (Glenn). Later, she’d be blessed with her beloved grandchildren. The twinkle in her eye every time a grandchild visited, called, or even text-messaged was evident to all. She cherished Ricky Roth, Hunter, Collin, and Emma Landry, Jordan Besse, and Dylan Peeler more than life itself, as did they her. She so dearly looked forward to spending time with each of them. Jo would cook any dish, play any game, and do whatever else she felt might help ensure their happiness, or simply remind them that they were loved. When Jo received her ALS diagnosis, she remained strong and positive, and in lieu of embracing negativity or fear, she spent that time making even more priceless memories both with and for her children and grandchildren. Written words cannot be arranged in a way that would effectively enough convey to you just how dearly she will be missed.

Jo was a stay-at-home mom until joining the workforce when her children were grown. This led to a successful 20-year career with the Corps of Engineers, from where she’d later retire in January 2001. She is survived by siblings Beatrice Durel Clouatre (Alvin), Barbara Durel Rystrom & Michael Durel (Maureen), and sister-in-law to Henry Peeler (Jackie). She was also a loving aunt to numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Thanks to Ochsner ALS clinic for their guidance and expert professional help.

Our family felt it pertinent to mention Geina Taylor, as her tireless care and love for Jo will forever be remembered.

We also want to give special mention to Anita Carter for the care she provided.

Jo was a parishioner of St. Rita of Harahan, La 70123
