Hugh Joseph Junca

Hugh Joseph Junca at the age of 84 died peacefully in his home on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 in Covington. He was born in New Orleans on May 3, 1938. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert M. Junca and Marie T. Buisson Junca; his brother, John J. Junca; and his niece, Amy Junca. Hugh is survived by his beloved wife, Martha W. Junca of 46 years, and his two daughters, Sheranda Rector (Craig) of Harrison, Tennessee and LaCresiea Olivier (Michael) of Covington, Louisiana. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren: LaDonna Ralston (Nathan), Chance Herrington (Dawn), Caleb Rector (Michelle), Nathan Rector (Kaele), Dylan Olivier, Michaela Olivier (Nick Gagliano), and Dane Olivier, and 11 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include his sisters, Therese Browne and Ann Carter (Billy), along with nephews: David Browne (Amy), Kevin Brown (Yuko), Billy Carter (Paulette), Jonathan Junca (Carly), and a niece, Amanda Connelly (Tim) and 10 great nieces and nephews. Hugh attended St. Aloysius High School and graduated from East Jefferson High School after moving to Metairie. After high school he joined the Coast Guard where he served in the reserve for 6 years. He worked as a salesman for many years and later became a pipefitter joining the Local Union 60 for Plumbers in Pipefitters. After retiring from pipefitting, he worked as a security guard for Schering Security where he was placed at Metairie Manor Assisted Living Community. Hugh was an avid reader and you would always find him with a book in his hand. He loved visiting the Natchez Trace and becoming one with nature. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and teaching them new things. In his younger years he enjoyed sharing his beloved city of New Orleans where he grew up with visiting family and friends. His love for his family and his memories will be cherished by all those who loved him. Hugh joins his beloved companions, Fool and Romeo, who have been waiting on him to join them.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Services at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive Metairie, LA 70001 on Monday, August 15, 2022. Visitation will begin at 4:30 pm with a service starting at 6:00 pm followed by a reception until 8:00 pm.
