Tribute

I have fought a good fight , I have finished my course, I have kept the faith -
2 Timothy 4:7

Horace Harris, Jr (June) was born September 26,1943 to Hilda Clair and
Horris Harris, Sr. in New Orleans, LA. Just before sunrise, May 20, 2023,
Horace passed away peacefully at his residence. At his side was his devoted
wife Gloria of 40 years.

Horace was a graduate of Walter L Cohen High School. Horace was united in
marriage to Marie Newman and they had three sons and a daughter. He later
met and married Gloria. Their marriage was a true testament of the biblical
verse: “In sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part.”
Horace attended Delgado Community College where he entered the electrical
apprenticeship and became an electrician. After working at several
construction sites, he became a Licensed Master Electrician, sole owner of
Harris Electric, and a member of IBEW. He retired from the City of New
Orleans Property and Management Department.

Horace was a parishioner of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church. When at
home, Horace enjoyed watching sports, local and national news on television.
He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Gloria. He often followed the Saints
at away games. His personality was solid, firm , but yet caring. Everyone
who knew him enjoyed his sense of style and his company. He was our
uptown Barack Obama.

He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, relative and friend. He
will be missed, but never forgotten. May he find comfort with the Lord and
all the saints.

Horace is survived by his loving wife, Gloria; children Horace III, Michael
(Michelle), Brian (Latonya), Cecelia H. Fernandes (Jose’), Brothers -in-law
Joseph (Alice) , John (Linda), Karry (Deborah), and Steven (Quinnett) Byrd,
Sisters-in-law Miranda and Shirley Byrd, nine grandchildren , thirteen great
grandchildren, host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his devoted
cousin Gilda McKinney. He is preceded in death by his parents, uncles, aunts, and devoted cousin,
Jerry Wallace.
