Claire Joyce Chauvin McCabe

Claire Joyce Chauvin McCabe passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. McCabe; her parents, Blanche Briant Chauvin and Frank James Chauvin; and five of her seven siblings. She is survived by her children: Roxanne Randall (Gary), John G. McCabe (Cookie), Alix Ayme (Nathan), and Vivian McCabe (Larry Batley); six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; her sister, Rose Collins; her brother, Raymond Chauvin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Claire was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 14, 1929 and was a graduate of Sacred Heart of Jesus High School on Canal Street. After Claire married John, they raised their family in Metairie. Claire was a longtime and founding member of Our Lady of Divine Providence Catholic Church and was involved in several parish ministries including Girl Scouts, Altar Society, and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. In recent years, Claire was a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Norco and was active in the St. Charles Parish Senior Club. She loved sewing, music, dancing, painting, playing card games, and Chauvin family celebrations. Claire was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She worked tirelessly throughout her life to care for her family members. She will be deeply missed by her family and all those whose lives she touched.
The family wishes to thank the skilled nursing community at Chateau de Notre Dame, as well as a special thanks to Crystal Gautreaux, Gilda Williams, and the staff of Notre Dame Hospice for the loving care and kindness they gave to our mother.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, Louisiana on Wednesday, January 23, 2019. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 12:00 noon. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association Louisiana Chapter at alz.org or 3445 N. Causeway Blvd. Suite 902, Metairie, LA 70002.
