Ciro R. Cerrato, M.D. passed away peacefully on Monday, November 9, 2020 at the age of 80. Beloved husband of 58 years to Eva E. Cerrato. Devoted father of Vanny Dennington (William), Patricia Torrealba (Yvar), Ciro M. Cerrato (Jennifer), and Leslie Long (Russell). Loving grandfather of 11 grandchildren: Ryan, Patrick, Ali, Max, Sofia, Lucia, Olivia, Brody, Chloe, Aiden, and Mia. Son of the late Egla Zelaya.
Born in Nacaome, Honduras on July 25, 1940. He left his native country to finish his Medical Degree/Residency in Internal Medicine at Worcester Memorial Hospital, Massachusetts. In 1973, he moved his family to New Orleans to pursue a second specialty in Cardiology at Charity Hospital. Early in his career, he worked at West Jefferson Medical Center, taught at the LSU Med Center, and eventually became part of the East Jefferson Hospital Team where he was a primary care provider since 1978. He established his private practice in Kenner and served the community doing what he loved best, being a a medical doctor. His patients loved him for his care, personal touch, his directness when advising them on what was best for them. His other passion in life, was his family. He adored all his grandchildren and was affectionately known as their “Tito”. He was always there to take care of everybody. He enjoyed watching classic movies, especially James Bond, eating ice cream daily, iced coca-cola in a bottle, listening to Frank Sinatra, reading history books, and was a huge Boston Celtics Fan. Tito will be incredibly missed by his loving family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Services at Garden of Memories Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive Metairie, LA 70001 on Tuesday, November 17, 2020. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am followed by Mass at 1:00 pm. Interment will be at a later date.
