Tribute

Charles Dawson Moore, Jr., made his final climb on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, after a long and beautiful life. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Dawson was preceded in death by his parents, Mickey and Lucille Moore. He was blessed with having his wife, Beverly Moore, at his side for 62 years. Dawson was a phenomenal father to Paige Becnel (Moe), Jeffrey Moore (Missie), and Tobi Provenzano. He dearly loved and served as a role model for nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Dawson graduated from Southeastern Louisiana College in Industrial Engineering, and he was President of the Class of 1963. During this time, he joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Belle Chasse, Louisiana working as a Flight Captain on a helicopter crew. He was later stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, where he worked on the Admiral’s Staff.

Dawson’s professional career brought him to Delaware; Ohio; West Virginia; Louisiana; Indiana; and Alabama, where he retired. His final years were in Gulfport, Mississippi.

Dawson was licensed as a private pilot, and flew single-engine planes and a sea plane. He joined the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, Civil Air Patrol, as a pilot, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was also active in the Young Eagles CAP, whose mission is to introduce and inspire youth in the world of aviation.

Across his life, Dawson was a man a great faith and strength of character. He cared deeply for others, always placing their needs before his own. He was a mentor to family, friends, and colleagues. He held many civic, professional, and religious offices throughout his life. Dawson was the life of every party and staged many a practical joke. Family was everything to Dawson, and everyone was considered family.

Dawson’s gentleness, love of others, strength and virtue were angelic.
