You Will Forever Be in Our Hearts
It is with very heavy hearts and deep sorrow that the family of Anthony “Tony” Saccaro, announces his passing on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at the age of 82. He was born June 20, 1938 to the late Anthony “Tony” Saccaro and Alma Lytell Saccaro. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Saccaro Bulger.
Affectionately referred to as Pops and Paw Paw, he will be very lovingly remembered by his sons, Tony Saccaro Jr. (Janet) and Steven J. Saccaro (Kellie) and his eight grandchildren: Mallory Saccaro, Emily Saccaro, Nicholas Saccaro, Anna Saccaro, Matthew Saccaro, Ella Saccaro, Natalie Saccaro and Brady Saccaro. In addition, he is survived by his nephew, Lyle Bulger Jr. and niece, Laura Bulger.
Tony graduated from the first graduating class of East Jefferson High School in 1956 and then served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was well-known in the Metairie and Jefferson Parish community for his many endeavors. He owned and operated the Red Wagon Grocery Store and Tony’s Po-Boys. He also actively played and supported both youth and adult sports leagues with Harahan and Jefferson Parish playgrounds. However, he is best-known for his time representing the New Orleans Hotel and Tourism Community. He was the General Manager of Duke’s Place/Dukes of Dixieland nightclub at the Hotel Monteleone. Later he was hired to become the Director of Tour and Travel for the Hotel Monteleone, serving over a period of 20 years combined. His infectious smile and amazing genuine personality endeared him to many in the travel Industry. Tony had a deep love for travel and sports and that provided his family with amazing stories and memories. He loved his LSU Tigers and traveled regularly to see them both away and in Tiger Stadium for over 62 years. More importantly, his love of family defined him so eloquently. He never missed an opportunity to travel and see his children or eight grandchildren play.
Family and Friends are invited to attend the visitation on Friday evening, June 25, 2021 from 5pm – 8pm at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie. A Rosary service will be held at 7pm Friday evening. Visitation will resume on Saturday morning, June 26, 2021 from 9am – 11am followed by the Funeral Service at 11am. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
