Richard “Dick” Arthur Mire, Sr. passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at the age of 86. He was the beloved husband of 34 years to the late Marlene Merrigan Mire who was the mother of their four children: Richard A. Mire, Jr. (Lisa), Cynthia M. Robert (Robin), Janette M. Bulloch (David) and Joseph M. Mire (Margie). He became the grandfather of Rebecca (Justin), Lauren (Josh), Amanda (Prad), Erica (Kyle), Elizabeth, Christopher, Celeste, Laurel and Daniel and the great-grandfather of Avery, Cole, William, May, Anna, Madeline, Merrigan, Sarah and Caden. He was preceded in death by his parents, LaVena Ora Mattox Mire Myers and Joseph Traismond Mire and his brother, Gordon Donald Mire. In 1993, he married Rose Anne Abadie Mire, with whom he was wed for 24 years. He expanded his loving family as stepfather of Roy Williams, Jr., Keith Williams (Genel), Kirk Williams (Janice), Wayne Williams (Elizabeth) and Mark Williams (Lisa); the step grandfather of Roy (Alicia), Kristen (Philip), Mark, Jr., Kyle, Alexa and Brittany and the step great-grandfather of Tristan, Lily, Jenna, Aiden, Jaxen and Owen. Dick retired from Exxon in 1992 after 35 years of employment. He served as past president of the Exxon Retirees Group and was also the past president of the American Institute of Drafting Design. He served his country in the U.S. Army, was a member of American Legion Post 175 and was Scoutmaster of Troop 490.
A gentleman in the truest sense, he lived a life of faith, compassion, integrity, loyalty and devotion to his family, friends and those in need. He was past president and a member of the St. Jude Society at St. Mary Magdalen where he also had a key role in the development of the St. Jude Prayer Garden and Social Apostolate – a testament of his dedication to his Catholic faith and those in need. He shared his creative talents in woodworking and art with his grandchildren on their annual beach trips and in the homes of those he loved. The love and devotion he bestowed on each one of our hearts will remain forever.
