Melissa Mendel Cavallino Zimmerman, 60, has gone to be with her heavenly father on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, after a valiant battle with brain cancer.  Melissa was born to August “Dick” and Audrey Peltier Mendel on October 13, 1956 in New Orleans.  Melissa loved spending time with her family, making beautiful jewelry, and gardening.  She was a member of Divine Mercy Catholic Church, where she served on the Eucharistic Ministry, Pastoral Council and served as a part of the core team for the Marriage Ministry. 
Melissa is survived by her husband, Andrew Zimmerman; her daughter, Dustie Allert (Michael); her son, James C. Bordelon III (Lindsay); her grandchildren: Maci Clement, Tre' and Austin Allert, and Courtney and Jaci Bordelon; her parents, Dick and Audrey Mendel; her siblings: Darren (Pam) Mendel, Benny (Peggy) Mendel, Verna (George) Sasso, and Doug Mendel; along with many other family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 12:00 pm at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 4337 Sal Lentini Parkway, Kenner, LA. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until Mass time. Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4900 Airline Dr., Metairie, LA 70001.
