James Edward Kraus, Jr. passed away peacefully on Monday, February 12, 2018 at the age of 80. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara Lynch Kraus; his daughters, Kathryn Kraus Bordlee (Paul Sr.) and Margaret Kraus Orson (Marshall); his sister, Nadine Kraus Newberry; three brothers, Jerome O. Kraus, John S. Kraus (Tina) and Jeffrey M. Kraus; a brother-in-law, Robert D. Lynch and four grandchildren: Paul H. Bordlee, Jr., Nicole M. Bordlee, Claire M. Orson and James M. Orson. He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. Kraus, Sr. and Alice Larson Kraus. Jim was born January 17, 1938 in Port Huron, MI. He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1960 and then enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves. Jim worked for St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Co. for 30 years as a Senior Insurance Underwriter. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling, golf, genealogy, and meeting with his breakfast group the “ROMEO’s”. He was a member of the Kiwanis Dawnbusters for 30 years, American Legion Post 377 and the Pelican Square Dance Club. Jim will be remembered as a caring brother, a loving husband, father and grandfather and a true friend. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at 10:00 AM with a Mass following at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie.
