Henry Samuel Wilty, Jr. died peacefully on March 13, 2017. Born August 29, 1920 to Henry Samuel Wilty, Sr. and Freida Loehn Wilty, he was a lifetime resident of Gretna, Louisiana. In World War II, he served with the 102nd Infantry Division (the Ozark Division) as a surgical technician. He was awarded the Bronze Star with the “V” device for valor in combat. After his discharge from the United States Army, he became a successful entrepreneur. He was always more than willing to assist anyone with his time and energy in any undertaking. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Sharon W. Fruge, and his sisters, Audrey W. Scheffler and Helen W. Chaisson. He is survived by his daughter, June W. Duker (Gary) and by grandchildren Michael Fruge (Lorei), Justin Fruge, Deborah M. Duker and Alicia Sullivan (Scott) as well as two great-grandchildren Molly and Keira Sullivan. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A special survivor is Alfreida Pierce, his longtime companion and extraordinary care giver. He held a special place in his heart for Alfreida’s family. The family wishes to acknowledge the care provided to him over the past year by Bernadette Green and the staff of Hearts of Hospice. He will be missed by his canine friend, Fritz von Hund. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 12:00 pm at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Dr. Metairie, LA and the visitation will begin at 10:00 am until service time. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Online condolences may be offered at www.gardenofmemoriesmetairie.com.
