Gloria Esther Robles Poppe went to be with the Lord on March 15, 2017 at the age of 86 years old. A native of Ciales, Puerto Rico. Loving mother of Gloria I. Gonzalez; Joyce E. Kirwan (Gary); and Miriam Gonzalez Gallagher (Tom), grandmother of Lt Col Ignacio A. Assaf (Christian) and great grandmother of Elena Miriam Assaf. Preceded in death by her first husband, Jose L. Gonzalez, and by her second husband, Lester Poppe. Daughter of the late Pacifico Robles and Rosalia Albarran and sister of the late Ismael Robles, Emelia Crespo, Ruben Robles, Angel Robles, Elsa Robles, and survived by brothers and sisters Delfin, Pacifico, Orlando, Nydia, and Luz Idalia. With a bold and courageous spirit, she came to the Chicago, Illinois from Puerto Rico in 1956 with her three children to provide a better future for them even though she did not know how to speak English. Teaching herself English, she attended a cosmetology school and opened her own beauty salon, being a savvy business woman and a hard worker. Her admiration for beauty things was also expressed in her love of gardening, especially when it came to roses. But her true passion was for her children, her grandson and her great granddaughter all of whom she adored.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass at St. Ann Church, 3601 Transcontinental Drive in Metairie, LA on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
