Francis Dudley Lamia, also called “Pal,” departed this life on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at East Jefferson General Hospital. He was 92. He was the beloved husband of nearly 67 years to Anna Mae Therese Haydel, formerly of Vacherie, and father to Gail Dominick (Ronald), Philip Lamia (Dixie), Anita Downs (Larry), Joan Sowell (Wesley) and Lynne Wallace (Paul), all surviving. Grandchildren are Donald Dominick, Justin Downs (Marie), Christopher Downs, Jonathan Downs, Tucker Sowell (Amy), Luke Sowell, Camille Sowell, Jude Sowell, Sam Wallace and Jane Wallace. Great-grandchildren are Barrett Sowell and Celeste Downs.
Mr. Lamia was born to the late Vincent P. and Estelle Waechter Lamia on Nov. 1, 1924, in New Orleans. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Vincent Lamia, Jr., and Joseph Lamia and a sister, Jessie Rascoll. He served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1945-46 in Japan. He graduated from Tulane University in 1958. For the past 56 years, he and Anna resided in Metairie, where he was a parishioner at St. Benilde Catholic Church. He was a longtime employee of Lykes Bros. Steamship Company in New Orleans where he worked as an accountant. He was loving, kind and faithful and will be greatly missed by his family, friends and caregivers.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Benilde Catholic Church, 1901 Division Street in Metairie, LA. Visitation will begin at the church at 9:30 am. Interment will be in the Jeffersonian Mausoleum located in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
